Okay, guys, this is totally happening! It is Super Phun SOUTH PARK FANFICTION CONTEST Thyme! ♥ Why? Because there is always room in the world for more lovely writing, and this fandom has no lack of creative aptitude. Writers, artists, lurkers, manbearpigs, this is your chance to show everyone what you’ve got!




THE RULES:

♥ THEME: the boys i mean are not refined (courtesy of ee cummings). Interpret this however literally or loosely you like, but make sure your fanfic relates at least vaguely. The theme is simply here to provide a bit of common ground, so judging isn’t like comparing apples to oranges.

EDIT: Unf, I am so sorry, guys, I never mean to make everyone research this damn thing. The theme is only the phrase, not the entire poem (unless you want it that way). You can equate it to anything; propriety, misbehaving, acting out, whatever. Notice that there's no "analysis of theme" criteria in judging. I will be very, very flexible on this.

♥ The contest is open-rating. If dA allows it, so will I.

♥ No length specifications! (Within reason, I mean. ♥!)

♥ Slash, het, gen--anything goes.

♥ Your entry must be a new story; no old material, since this contest is meant to generate more fanfiction.

♥ Please make sure your fic is a oneshot. Of course, you can continue later, or incorporate it into something else. But it must be able to stand on its own.

♥ Another edit: You may enter up to two entries, but it may split your votes, since everyone is allowed only one each! ♥

♥ The deadline is July 14th, 11:59 Mountain Standard Time. Formally, I mean. As long as I see the entry first thing in the morning, it’s cool. Time zones are confusing.




There are two types of judging.

READER’S CHOICE: After the deadline has passed, I’ll edit this entry with a voting reminder. Note me with the title of your favorite entry! This will be completely anonymous. Authors can vote, too, which means that non-writer input is very important. You guys have authoritah! Please put it to good use! Voting will last for seven days, from July 15th to July 22nd.

JUDGE’S CHOICE: This is me; I hope that’s not too presumptuous! I’ll be gauging things like originality, narrative skill, and technical correctness. (If there are any other South Park grammar Nazis out there who are definitely not participating, I would love to have you on a panel! Note me!) The Judge’s Choice may or may not be the same as the Reader’s Choice. The number of categories will change based on the number of entries; there may be anywhere from one to five superlatives, and these winners will receive second-place prizes.

SUBMISSION:

♥ If you’re too shy to post your work, I’d be more than happy to upload your writing anonymously onto my account.

♥ Feel free to cross-post wherever you like, but know that reviews/comments outside of dA do not count as votes. I can only allow notes from dA members, because not every writer has the same resources on fanfiction.net, live journal, etc.

♥ I’ll be posting links to all the entries here! If I happen to miss yours, kick me or something. Tagging your fic with “fanfiction contest entry” will decrease the chance of me overlooking it like a moron, but it’s not a requirement.




PRIZES:

Okay, this is where it gets tricky. The first-place winners (Judge’s and Member’s) can take their pick of these things:

♥ A six-month dA subscription (two consecutive three-month subs, that is)
♥ A six-month paid account on Livejournal.com
♥ Cash (via Paypal or snail mail, whatever works best)

All three amount to roughly fifteen US dollars. So if you’d like a subscription somewhere else for equal value, or you want me to pay for your porn for a few months or whatever, I’m game! I’ll make regional adjustments (but those damn euros, geez). You’ll also get a schmexy little banner based on your fic, courtesy of my minimal art skills.

If this contest gets big enough for other categories, second-place winners will also get spiffy banners. If anyone else has better ideas, please do note me! This is sort of up in the air, for the time being. I’ll keep everyone posted.
